XVI. Malpelo is a small island in the East Pacific Ocean, located about km ( mi) west of the Colombian mainland with a military post manned by the Colombian Armed consists of a sheer and barren rock with three high peaks, the highest being Cerro de la Mona with a height of m ( ft).
The island is about a mile in length from northeast to southwest, and yards in : km² ( sq mi). The Malpelo anole (Anolis agassizi), also known as Agassiz's anole, is a species of lizard in the family Dactyloidae. The species is endemic to Malpelo Island, which is part of Colombia.
Etymology. The specific name, agassizi, is in honour of Alexander Agassiz, who Family: Dactyloidae. Observations of two of the endemic species of lizards of Malpelo Island provide new information on their natural history, ecology, and population size. Anolis agassizi, the most abundant and broadly distributed lizard, feeds mainly on insects and excrements of marine birds.
